MET GALA - 2018

Friday, 04 May 2018

The Costume Institute Gala at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art is the biggest event on the fashion fundraising calendar. It is also known as the 1st Monday in May, initially organized by Eleanor Lambert in 1948.

Since 1995, this event has been chaired by Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief at Vogue Magazine.

This year is the 70th anniversary of this fabulous event and will be co-hosted by Amal Clooney, Rihanna and Donatella Versace and from the theme we can tell it’s going to be EPIC: Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination

We know that this is an art exhibition that is raising the standards from year to year and it is designed to make an impact in the Fashion Industry!

Designed to protect the Met’s Costume Institute, this event has evolved into so much more. Called “ The Oscars’ of the East Coast” or “The Party of the Year” has dragged all the attention!

For the past 3 years, what happens after the Red Carpet remains a mystery and we tend to applaud this initiative.Being already a huge marketing event, we like to see that’s more than just that!

Anna Wintour promises an event that will feature items such as Pope Benedict XV's white silk cape embroidered with gold thread and the pointed bishop's hat of Pope Leo XIII, will go on display alongside pieces by Coco Chanel, who was educated by nuns, John Galliano, Cristóbal Balenciaga and Donatella Versace, who is a sponsor of the exhibition.

Controversial much? This is by far an understatement for what will happen, however, Bolton, the curator of this year’s show, has defended his work: "Some might consider fashion to be an unfitting or unseemly medium by which to engage with ideas about the sacred or the divine, but dress is central to any discussion about religion," he said at a press conference in Rome. "It affirms religious allegiances and, by extension, it asserts religious differences."

As usual, when presenting an event like this one, we cannot pass the opportunity of showing you our color choices for this theme and cannot wait for this Monday to see how these would work with the amazing gowns that will be presented!

“Paradise” and “Love and Mercy” are two amazing choices that inspire so much power and control and we feel these are fabulous for an event such as this one!

If you are looking for a softer version, we have two other exquisite gels that will complete your look beautifully. Inspired by this year’s Ultraviolet color theme, “Talk of Angels” and “ All the way up” are exactly what you need!

Without a doubt this exhibition will be exquisite as always and like every year, we will follow it closely! We are pretty sure that you won’t stand aside either!

Here’s to moments and statements that make a difference!
